Position Overview

John Deere Seeding Group is seeking a Tactical Line Quality Engineer to support the final assembly department in Moline. This role partners with assembly operators and cross-functional teams to resolve quality questions, investigate shop-floor issues, lead containment and corrective actions, and strengthen manufacturing process controls.

This is not a quality inspection position. The Quality Engineer will support operators with quality issues and work closely with the UAW inspection team, but will not perform quality inspections. Candidates whose experience is limited to quality inspection are not a fit for this role.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide tactical quality engineering support to the final assembly department.
  • Support operators with quality questions and shop-floor issues.
  • Investigate potential quality concerns and lead problem-solving activities.
  • Lead containment activities when quality issues are identified.
  • Develop and implement corrective actions to improve factory and customer quality.
  • Participate in quality improvement meetings addressing factory and customer concerns.
  • Verify and improve manufacturing process controls, including torque, routing, and other assembly processes.
  • Partner with Operations, Manufacturing Engineering, Supply Management, Product Engineering, and inspectors to reduce defects and improve product quality.
  • Help build a strong quality culture across the factory.
  • Manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced manufacturing environment.

Required Qualifications

  • Experience in manufacturing, quality engineering, process engineering, or a related technical field.
  • Strong root cause analysis and problem-solving skills.
  • Experience developing and implementing corrective actions.
  • Ability to work effectively with cross-functional teams and influence without direct authority.
  • Strong communication and organizational skills.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering or a related technical discipline, or equivalent experience.

Recent graduates are welcome to apply if they have an engineering degree, relevant coursework, and internship experience.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with data analysis, AI, Power BI, or programming.
  • Background in quality planning, quality control, or quality improvement.
  • Knowledge of Lean Manufacturing, continuous improvement, Leader Standard Work, or Daily Management.
  • Experience with data analytics.
  • Familiarity with John Deere manufacturing systems.
  • Experience with quality management systems such as ISO 9001.
