Position Title: Field Test Technician

Pay Rate: $47/hour (W2 through KellyOCG for John Deere)

Location: Waterloo, IA
Assignment Length: 12 Months

Position Summary

The Product Technical Support Representative provides advanced technical support to PV&V field teams, channel partners, and customers experiencing complex product issues.

This role uses advanced diagnostic skills, technical systems, and published product information to troubleshoot and resolve problems. The representative will also help strengthen channel partners’ technical and customer-support capabilities and may serve as a technical resource for Product Support Representatives, Engineering, Quality Improvement Teams, and other cross-functional groups.

The ideal candidate will have a strong background in diesel and electrical diagnostics, preferably from an agricultural equipment dealership or original equipment manufacturer (OEM) technical environment. This is not primarily a vehicle-maintenance position.

Key Responsibilities

• Provide product technical support to:
  • PV&V field teams
  • Channel partners
  • Customers
• Lead troubleshooting and problem resolution for complex technical issues.
• Follow established Problem Resolution Processes.
• Use advanced diagnostic skills, technical systems, and tools to access and evaluate published product information.
• Analyze data from multiple sources to identify root causes and develop solutions.
• Work through cross-functional teams to resolve technical problems involving new products.
• Support Engineering, Quality Improvement Teams, Product Support Representatives, and other technical groups.
• Develop and author technical solutions, service bulletins, and other support materials for field teams and channel partners.
• Help improve the technical and customer-support capabilities of channel partners.
• Assist with gathering identified parts needed for production-intent updates.
• Travel to the field to support complex problem resolution.
• Update machines with experimental or production-intent parts as required.
• Communicate technical findings, recommendations, and solutions to internal and external stakeholders.

Required Qualifications

• Minimum two-year degree in one of the following areas, or an equivalent combination of education, technical skills, and applicable work experience:
  • Electrical Engineering Technology
  • Diesel Power Technology
  • Manufacturing Engineering Technology
  • Technology Management
• Strong understanding of diesel engine diagnostics.
• Experience diagnosing electrical systems.
• Knowledge of diesel aftertreatment systems.
• Strong electrical diagnostic background.
• Ability to troubleshoot complex technical problems using a structured process.
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
• Ability to work effectively with field teams, channel partners, customers, Engineering, and Quality teams.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office and Microsoft Teams.
• Technical aptitude and the ability to learn and use proprietary diagnostic tools and applications.
• Willingness to travel approximately 10–20% throughout the United States and Canada.

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience as a technician with an agricultural equipment dealer.
• Experience as an OEM technician.
• Agricultural equipment diagnostic experience.
• Experience with production-intent or experimental product updates.
• Knowledge of Battery Electric Vehicle (BEV) systems.
• Experience authoring technical solutions, service bulletins, or troubleshooting documentation.
• Experience supporting new-product development, validation, or field testing.
• Recent graduates of agricultural technology, diesel technology, or similar programs are encouraged to apply.

Travel Requirements

• Periodic travel is required throughout the United States and Canada.
• Travel is expected to be approximately 10–20% of the time.
• Travel may involve field problem resolution and machine updates using experimental or production-intent parts.
