Position Summary

As a Maintenance Planner at Des Moines Works located in Des Moines, IA, you will provide critical planning, scheduling, and work management support for manufacturing operations by partnering with maintenance, production, engineering, and skilled trades teams to ensure safe, reliable, and efficient asset performance. This role is responsible for managing the maintenance work management process, including ingestion, case management, work order creation, planning, scheduling, dispatching, and closure activities.

You will maintain the integrity of maintenance data within the CMMS system, ensuring accurate documentation. The position also supports spare parts management activities, including new inventory creation along with support activities for current stock.

Additionally, you will support maintenance procurement activities through parts sourcing, purchase requisition creation, purchase order tracking, vendor coordination, and material readiness for planned work. Success in this role requires strong organizational skills, attention to detail, effective communication, and the ability to balance multiple priorities while supporting maintenance execution, reliability improvements, and continuous improvement initiatives.

Skills Required

• Knowledge of maintenance planning, scheduling, and work management processes within a manufacturing environment.
• Experience managing work orders, dispatching maintenance activities, and coordinating maintenance resources.
• Strong understanding of maintenance systems and data management, including equipment records, preventive maintenance plans, task lists, and asset hierarchies.
• Experience supporting spare parts inventory management, material planning, and storeroom operations.
• Ability to create and manage purchase requisitions, support purchase order processes, and coordinate with suppliers and procurement teams.
• Strong organizational, analytical, and problem-solving skills with a high attention to detail.
• Effective communication and collaboration skills with the ability to work across production, maintenance, engineering, procurement, and storeroom teams.
• Ability to manage multiple priorities, adapt to changing business needs, and execute work independently in a fast-paced manufacturing environment.

Preferred Skills

• Experience using SAP Maintenance, CMMS, EAM, or other maintenance work management systems.
• Knowledge of maintenance planning best practices, preventive maintenance strategies, reliability-centered maintenance, and asset management principles.
• Experience managing maintenance backlogs, scheduling compliance, and work order performance metrics.
• Familiarity with spare parts optimization, inventory control strategies, cycle counting, and critical spare identification.
• Experience creating and maintaining bills of material (BOMs), equipment records, and maintenance master data.
• Knowledge of procurement processes, supplier coordination, purchase order management, and material logistics.
• Demonstrated ability to coordinate multiple stakeholders while driving maintenance readiness and execution.
• Experience supporting continuous improvement initiatives focused on maintenance efficiency, asset reliability, and cost reduction.
• A proactive mindset with a passion for organization, process improvement, data accuracy, and enabling maintenance teams to achieve optimal equipment uptime and reliability.

Education Requirements

• 4 year degree in any field or at least 3 years of applicable work experience.
