Pay Rate: $26.50/hr (W2 through KellyOCG for John Deere)

Position Summary

John Deere Des Moines Works is seeking a hands-on Computer Support Technician to support the technology infrastructure powering a large manufacturing operation, warehouses, and a test lab.

This role provides exposure to a wide range of technologies, including computers, printers, scanners, networks, automation, enterprise systems, and emerging AI tools. The successful candidate will balance day-to-day technical support with IT projects, equipment deployments, process improvements, and technology rollouts.

The primary work location is in Ankeny, Iowa. This team also supports a warehouse in Altoona and a lab in Ames. Occasional travel to these locations will be required on an as-needed basis. Travel time is approximately 15–30 minutes one way.

Key Responsibilities

• Deploy, configure, and support:
  • PCs and workstations
  • Printers
  • Scanners
  • Network equipment
• Troubleshoot hardware, software, and connectivity issues.
• Manage technical support requests through ServiceNow.
• Assist with IT projects, system upgrades, and technology rollouts.
• Maintain asset inventory and equipment records.
• Support printer maintenance and asset-disposal activities.
• Identify opportunities to improve IT processes and the user experience.
• Provide hands-on technical support in both office and manufacturing environments.
• Use a Deere Gator to travel throughout the facility as needed.
• Support technology across the Ankeny, Altoona, and Ames locations.

Required Qualifications

• Knowledge of computer hardware, software, and networking fundamentals.
• Strong troubleshooting and customer-service skills.
• Experience with Microsoft Office and standard business applications.
• Understanding of basic cybersecurity concepts.
• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Ability to lift up to 25 pounds.
• Ability to work in both office and shop-floor environments.
• Ability to travel occasionally to supported facilities in Altoona and Ames.

Preferred Qualifications

• At least one year of IT experience.
• IT-related degree or equivalent experience.
• Familiarity with AI tools such as Microsoft Copilot or ChatGPT.
• Exposure to scripting or automation tools, including:
  • PowerShell
  • Python
  • VBA
• Experience with ServiceNow, asset management, manufacturing systems, or enterprise IT support.

Work Environment and Requirements

• Approximately 50% desk work and 50% shop-floor work.
• Business casual dress code.
• Metatarsal safety shoes are required on the first day.
• Use of a Deere Gator may be required to move around the facility.

• Occasional travel to the Altoona warehouse and Ames lab is required on an as-needed basis.
• Minimal overtime expected.
