Position Title: Quality Engineer – Weld / Assembly
Location: East Moline, IL
Shift: 1st shift, 6:00 a.m.–2:30 p.m (May require off-shift and weekend work)

Assignment Length: 24 Months

Pay Rate: $50/hr (W2 through KellyOCG for John Deere)
Visa Sponsorship: Visa sponsorship is not available now or in the near future for this position.

Position Summary

The Quality Engineer will support weld and assembly operations at John Deere Harvester Works in East Moline, Illinois. This role is responsible for driving quality, safety, efficiency, cost, and ergonomic improvements throughout the department.

The engineer will establish process controls, support assembly and welding operations, lead closed-loop corrective actions, and collaborate with salaried and hourly production personnel to resolve build issues and improve manufacturing processes.

Key Responsibilities

  • Identify and implement continuous-improvement projects focused on:
    • Safety
    • Quality
    • Efficiency
    • Cost reduction
    • Ergonomics
  • Establish process controls, tooling, assembly methods, Operator Methods Sheets (OMS), and control plans for changes to current operations.
  • Use SAP, MPPlanner, and JDAAT to perform engineering functions.
  • Drive closed-loop corrective actions for assembly and welding build issues.
  • Support weld and assembly processes in a production environment.
  • Review prints, CMM reports, and measurement data to identify and resolve quality concerns.
  • Develop and maintain shop-floor documentation, including:
    • Sequence of Events (SOE)
    • Process Failure Mode and Effects Analysis (PFMEA)
    • Operator Methods Sheets (OMS)
  • Collaborate with salaried and hourly employees to implement process improvements and corrective actions.
  • Support production needs during off-shift and weekend operations as required.

Required Qualifications

  • Experience with manufacturing assembly and welding processes.
  • Experience working in a production or shop-floor environment.
  • Ability to read engineering prints, CMM reports, and measurement data.
  • Demonstrated communication skills.
  • Ability to work effectively with salaried and hourly personnel.
  • Experience with shop-floor documentation, including SOEs, PFMEAs, and OMSs.
  • Experience using engineering tools, systems, and databases.
  • Ability to work off shifts and weekends as needed.
  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering, data analytics, a related discipline, or equivalent related work experience.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience using MPPlanner for SOE and OMS development.
  • Experience with closed-loop corrective-action processes.
  • Experience with JDAAT coding.
  • Experience with Manufacturing Execution Systems (MES), including:
    • SAP
    • Ignition
    • Related MES platforms
  • Experience working in a unionized manufacturing environment.
  • Experience with torque tooling.
  • Experience with AutoCAD.
  • Experience with Creo View.
  • Experience supporting weld and assembly quality in a high-volume manufacturing environment.
